Storytime is magical my favorite part about it all is I get to share in the adventure that my daughter goes on everytime we read and as she grows and we revisit stories her discoveries of new things feel like the story is told all over again from a different perspective.

But a lot of why I decided to write this book is about my as a parent, my experiences growing up and the type of experiences I want to make a part of Zara’s world. A big part of it is about the beauty of diversity, it sounds cliche perhaps but I grew up in a very diverse community with people from all parts of the world. We moved into the suburbs and I realized that while the demographics of our new community was skewed, there was so much diversity. My daughter will grow to be around other children from so many different backgrounds.

What did not resonate with me was the fact that I didn’t feel content my daughter was exposed to whether in books or on youtube was reflective of any of these experiences – so I wanted to write a children’s book that dove into the classics of time that we all share from nursery rhymes to stories but allow the journey into these to be an adventure not just for our children but even us as parents. So that is the journey and I hope you join me in shifting the content and narrative that our children are exposed to into one that is more inclusive. It sounds like another cliche thing to say but there is so much power in diversity.
